Gottlob Friedrich Hase was born the son of Zacharias Hase (Pastor in Härtensdorf and court chaplain (Hofprediger) in Wildenfels) and Anna Dorothea Albinus. He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on May 18, 1720; studied there from 1720 to 1727; and at Universität Wittenberg from 1735. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. After his studies, he worked as Substitute from 1736 and Pastor from 1739 in Niedersteinbach, Bavaria. He married Rahel Sophie List (1712-1787); and had two children: Karl Friedrich Hase (1751-1803); and Friedrich Traugott Haase (1754-1823).
