Samuel Siegfried Haase was born to Christoph Haase (Kantor in Profen). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on July 8, 1731; studied there from 1731 to 1736; and at Universität Leipzig from 1738. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. His elder brother, Johann Gottlob Haase (b 1715), was also J.S. Bach's pupil.
