Johann Gottfried Grosse [Große] enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on June 4, 1716; studied there from 1716 to 1724; and at Universität Leipzig from 1717. He died as an alumnus. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him.
