Johann Christian Friedrich Gräffe (Pastor, Bach's Pupil)

Born: July 9, 1729 - Wenigensömmern, Thuringia, Germany
Died: July 18, 1795 - Oberschmon, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany

Johann Christian Friedrich Gräffe was born the son of Johann Friedrich Gräffe (Pastor in Wenigensömmern). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on April 5, 1745; studied there from 1745 to 1751; and at Universität Leipzig from 1751, obtaining his Baccalaureus degrre in 1754, his Magister degree in 1755, and ordination in Leipzig 1757. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. After his studies, he worked as Pastor in Kleinwangen from 1757; Deacon from 1759 and Archdeacon from 1761 in Querfurt; Pastor in Leimbach from 1767 and Oberschmon from 1785.
