Siegismund Freudenberg (Organ, Bach's Pupil)

Born: April 1704 (baptised: April 20, 1704) - Seifershau, Riesengebirge, Gebhardsdorf, Silesia, Germany (today: Kopaniec, Poland)

Siegismund Freudenberg was a German organist. c1716 he Around 1716 attended the Gymnasium in Hirschberg and studied with Tobias Volckmar (1678-1756). From 1722 to 1724 he was Kantor substitute in Lissa (Wartheland). He studied and privately with J.S. Bach while reading law at the University of Leipzig between 1724 (enrollment on October 6, 1724) and 1728. In 1727/1728 he participated in church music and representation services as organist in Hirschberg; in 1728-1731 he stayed in Schweidnitz, Dresden and Freiberg. He was unsuccessful in his attempts to find employment as an organist in Schweidnitz (1728) and Görlitz (1730). In April 1731 he competed, again unsuccessfully, with Johann Adolph Scheibe (1708-1776) and Theodor Christian Gerlach (1694-1768) for the post of organist at Freiberg Cathedral. Further whereabouts unknown.

Siegismund Freudenberg mentioned his lessons with J.S. Bach on the basis of his failed applications to Schweidnitz (1728) and Freiberg (1731).
