Gottlieb Christian Traugott Frege (Civil Servant, Bach's Pupil)

Born: June 3, 1734 - Lampertswalde, Saxony, Germany
Died: July 2, 1799 - Regensburg, Upper Palatinate, Bavaria, Germany

Gottlieb Christian Traugott Frege was born the son of Christian Frege (Aug 11, 1682-Nov 22, 1753; Pastor in Lampertswalde) and Johanne Eleonore Gerber (Feb 28, 1689-Jun 10, 1754; Married May 22, 1711). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on May 16, 1748; studied there from 1748 to 1754; and at Universität Leipzig from 1755. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. After his studies, he worked as senior civil servant (Amtmann) in Wiesenburg, later in Vienna and Regensburg. He was married to Wilhelmine von Fröden (Sep 9, 1739-Apr 5, 1796) and had 4 children: Christiane Sophie Marianne Frege (1768-1792); Jeanette Louise Albertine Frege (Dec 5, 1769-unknown); Carl Christian Wilhelm Frege (Feb 21, 1771-Aug 13, 1850); and Auguste Caroline Mathilde Frege (Sep 9, 1775-between 1813-1841).
