Johann Martin Frauer (Music Teacher, Bach's Pupil)

Born: April 14, 1714, Lindau (Bodensee = Lake Constance), Bavaria, Germany
Died: April 26, 1769 - Lindau (Bodensee = Lake Constance), Bavaria, Germany

Johann Martin Frauer was born the son of Jacob Frauer (tawer in Lindau). He attended school in Lindau and was a pupil of Jacob Forster. Hew studied in Leipzig (enrollment on April 27, 1733) and was J.S. Bach's pupil. From 1736 to 1748 he worked as music teacher for the music class of the Lindauer Stadtschule; from 1748 he was teacher of the fourth class of the Lindauer Stadtschule (since 1747 already as vicar, that is external teacher).

On February 18, 1735 J.S. Bach sent a letter to the Leipzig Council about the student Johann Martin Frauer. The latter lessons with J.S. Bach from around 1733 to 1736 were supported by a council grant and are therefore documented by the Lindauer Ratsprotokolle. However, the student's lack of enthusiasm can also be seen in them. The contact person of the Lindauer Council on J.S. Bach was the Councilor Jacob Forster, who also acted as organist and music director and was a student of Johann Nicolaus Bach [27] during his studies in Jena.
