Born: April 15, 1712 - Leipzig, Saxony, Germany Died: unknown
Johann Gottfried Eschner had been an “Externus” for 7 years before application to enroll at Thomasschule in Leipzig in 1729. J.S. Bach reported (1729): “ not demonstrating abilities in music”. He was not accepted as Thomaner. He he had helped in singing (as alto) the liturgy before the altar and sang along with the Kurrende when they made their rounds during New Years, but only when the Kurrende were too short on singers. It is not known if he actually studied with J.S. Bach.
