Heinrich Abraham von Boyneburg (Court Offices, Bach's Pupil) |
Born: 1713 - Thuringia, Germany
Died: 1771- Schloß Weilar (near Salzungen), Thuringia, Germany |
Heinrich Abraham von Boyneburg [Boineburg] was born the son of Georg Heinrich von Boineburg (Aug 31, 1656-1729) and Rabel von Boineburg. He studied Universität Leipzig (enrolled on May 19, 1730). He served in various offices at the court of Hessen-Kassel, and lived in Schloß Weilar (near Salzungen).
On a copy of the violin sonata BWV 1021, made jointly by Anna Magdalena Bach and J.S. Bach around 1732, is this note referring to Heinrich Abraham von Boyneburg: "Unter mehrern Handstücken meines Onkels väterl. Seite, der in Leipzig auf der Akademie Unterricht von diesem großen Mann genoß, aufgefunden" (This page was found among several handpieces from my uncle, who enjoyed lessons from this great man at the academy in Leipzig). This information, recorded by the nephew Christoph Ernst Abraham Albert von Boyneburg [Boineburg] (Dec 27, 1752-Dec 30, 1840), apparently goes back to a family tradition and can certainly claim credibility.
More recent research shows that the sonata is actually a collective effort, with Anna Magdalena Bach copying the main music text, and J.S. Bach adding the movement headings, key signatures and (in an extremely careful way) figures to the basso continuo. The manuscripts were produced on behalf of the J.S. Bach student Heinrich Abraham von Boineburg and eventually ended up in the possession of Manfred Gorke; they were opened to the public for the first time in 1935. Introduction in Ger-Eng. Limited edition of 1100 copies. Distinctive portfolio with green paper boards, black linen spine, and hinged flaps. $80
