Johann Andreas Agthe (Organ, Bach's Pupil)

Born: January 2, 1733 - Hettstedt, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany
Died: September 14, 1806 - Arensburg (today: Kuressaare, Saaremaa, Estonia)

Johann Andreas Agthe [Andrei Andrejewitsch von Agthe] was born the son of Johann Andreas Agthe (Mar 4, 1699-1739; teacher and organist at the Mädchenschule in Hettstedt) and Dorothea Agthe (Müller) (c1700-Oct 5, 1740). He had one brother: Karl Friedrich Agthe (Jan 20, 1724-Sep 1, 1787). He enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on February 15, 1748; studied there from 1748 to 1749. Although he attended the Thomasschule during J.S. Bach's tenure, it is not known if he actually studied with him. After his studies, he works as organist in Arensburg (Kuressaare), Koll. Ass., Collegien Assessor. He was married three times: Christina Elisabeth von Agthe (Schultz) (Mar 11, 1739-Dec 1772); Helene Beate Agthe (Schröder) (Apr 12 1746- Sep 14, 1785) in 1773; Sophia Helene von Agthe (Pilar von Pilchau) (Sep 11, 1745-Mar 15, 1816). He had at least 17 children: Johann Friedrich von Agthe (Sep 8, 1756-Jan 28, 1808); Catherine Charlotte von Agthe (1758-1763); Gustav Ouirin von Agthe (Feb 27, 1760-Nov 30, 1763); Andreas von Agthe (Nov 12, 1761-Jun 20, 1828); Karl Friedrich von Agthe (Dec 11, 1763-May 8, 1766); Adolph Leberecht von Agthe (Jan 1, 1766-Oct 18, 1766); Gottfried Michael von Aghte (Nov 7, 1767-Jan 1, 1814); Christian Füchtengott von Agthe (Apr 2, 1770-1845); Karl Emmanuel von Agthe (Dec 24, 1771-before 1822); Hermann Adolf von Agthe (Apr 30, 1775-Apr 13, 1832); Anna Johanna Beata von Dahl (Agthe) (before Mar 7, 1776-Dec 12, 1855); Adam Georg (Egor Andreyevich) von Agthe (Aug 12, 1777-Augt 26, 1826); Peter Wilhelm von Agthe (Augt 15, 1779-Aug 26, 1797), and other children.
