At the end of 1988 a small group of people from Zwettl, who enjoyed singing, came together to form a choir group under the name of "Zwettler Vocalisten", around the choir director at the time and today choir director of the Wiener Staatsoper, Martin Schebeta. In October 1989 this young choir was able to demonstrate its skills in front of an audience for the first time. This first concert was called "Quer durch Zeit und Raum" (Across Time and Space). Over the years this choir established itself as a Zwettler Institution.
20 years have now passed. Every year the Zwettler Vocalisten give at least one concert, and there are regular performances on a larger and smaller scale. Choral highlights were certainly the anniversary concert 10 years ago, and a few years ago the choir trip to the German twin town of Plochingen for an Advent concert.
The success of the choir rests on several pillars. One of them was the tough development work of the first choir director, who had taught us the basics and subtleties of choral singing, and, after Martin Schebesta handed over the leadership to Joachim Adolf after 10 years for professional reasons, his enthusiasm, zeal, perseverance and tenacity. He has continued and successfully developed the choir, which is certainly one of the top choirs in the Waldviertel, to this day.
Ultimately, however, the choir members also carry the success outwards. And there were quite a few who took part in the past 20 years and thus made the Zwettler Vocalisten what they are today.
