The Russian guitarist, Andrey [Andrej, Andrei] Zvonkov (Russian: Андрей Звонков), graduated from the Piano Music School with honors. He then entered the Gnessin State Musical College, where he attended the guitar class. In 1995 he graduated in the section of jazz music at the Russian Academy of Music Gnesin.
Andrey Zvonkov is an aspiring guitarist, versatile musician and one of the most important artists of Russian rock music. As a first-year student, he began working with leading Russian artists performing in a variety of genres: Olga Kormuchina, Vladimir Presnakov, Igor Butman, Andrei Davidyyan, Oleg Gazmanov, Zemfira - and this is not a complete list of performers with whom he has collaborated and recorded albums. Since 2006, he has been a member of one of the most famous Russian rock bands - BI-2.
In 2014, Andrey Zvonkov entered a new phase of his creative life. It all started from arranging piano music for guitar. A daring interpretation of Sergei Rachmaninov’s prelude brought to cooperating with the Professor of Moscow Conservatory, the magnificent pianist Alexander Vershinin, who suggested trying a duo performance of J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations (BWV 988): grand piano and guitar. Goldberg Variations produced such an impression on Andrey, that he learned the whole thing by heart! Search for a new sound resulted in meeting a composer in demand, double-bass player Vyacheslav Akhmetzyanov. The musicians came to the conclusion that the best choice for Goldberg Variations would be a combination of guitar and string quintet. Hence the name: Strings Theory. This ambitious project has attracted the attention of classical music experts and rock music fans alike thanks to its new approach, unusual format and many creative discoveries. Andrey Zvonkov currently lives in Moscow, Russia. |
