The American soprano and pianist, Sophia Zey (Sophia Huang), studied at Fort Dodge High School in Fort Dodge, Iowa (2006-2010). She obtained her Bachlor of Arts in Music Performance from Luther College (2010-2014); and her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Kansas City-Missouri (UMKC) Conservatory of Music and Dance (2014-2016). She won the Distinction in Accompaniment Award and Competition from Luther College.
Sophia Zey has been pianist at Riverside United Methodist Church in Fort Dodge, Iowa (2009-2010); Accompanist Luther College in Decorah, Iowa (August 2010-May 2014); Pianist at Decorah United Church of Christ (UCC) in Decorah, Iowa (2012-May 2014); Studio Artist Castleton Festival in Castleton, Virginia (June-August 2014).
Since 2008, Sophia Zey has been freelancing in the Kansas City metropolitan area as a pianist and soprano, as well as teaching at a music school and modelling with Voices& Model and Talent Agency in Kansas City, Missouri (since 2016). She recently attended Aspen Music Festival as a Fellowship Opera Coach for the Aspen Opera Center, where she coached students from all over the world with a focus on French diction and Berlioz’ opera Béatrice et Bénédict (June-August 2016). She also played for weekly master-classes and occasional evening parties in Aspen, Colorado. As a soprano, she recently performed the roles of Flora in Benjamin Britten's Turn of the Screw (UMKC), Papagena in W.A. Mozart's The Magic Flute (UMKC), and Nella in Gianni Schicchi (Luther College). Since August 2004 she lives in Kansas City, Missouri. She is married to Tyler Zey since July 28, 2014. |
