Hyun-Soo Yoo (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: South Korea

The Korean mezzo-soprano, Hyun-Soo Yoo (Korean: 류현수), graduated from Hansei University and graduate school of the same university; then graduated from Universität der Künste Berlin with Opern-Diplom Studium and the highest score in opera; completed Aufbaukonzertgesang Studium with the highest score at Musikhochschule Lübeck; and graduated from Musikhochschule Lüebeck with soloist course (Solisten klasse). She studied under the guidance of Ahn Hee-bok, Ute Niss. She participated in the master-class of the singers Mirella Freni and Edda Moser as a scholarship student and devoted herself to academic research. Audience Award, Grand Prize in all categories of the Fossel Music Competition hosted by Lübeck National University of Music, 2nd place without first place at Gaetano Fraskini International Competition in Italy, 2nd place at Julietta Simonato International Vocal Competition, 3rd place at Saleh International Vocal Competition, etc. She received awards in succession and was recognized for his solid musicality.

In Korea, Hyun-Soo Yoo has appeared on various stages as a soloist of two-person concerts, five-person concerts, rookie concerts, and religious songs. She has appeared in various performances such as Hansei University Opera Festival Plotto's Opera Martha, Ahn Hee-bok Opera Research Group's opera La Traviata and opera gala concerts, beginning her stage experience.

Hyun-Soo Yoo has appeared in the operas Verdi's Il Trovatore and Rigoletto; Georges Bizet's Carmen; Die Fledermaus, Rheingold; W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, Cosi fan tutte, and Don Giovanni; Charles Gounod's Romeo et Juliette in major German and domestic halls, Rigoletto, La Rondine, Amahl and the Night Visitors, and Kurenesimon appeared in opera gala concerts with a wide repertoire, and took the lead role in many operas and has a deep voice presented a high-quality stage through. She has appeared in numerous opera gala concerts, particularly in Switzerland, where she appeared in more than 20 leading roles in Joseph Weigl's opera Bergsturz and in Germany in Carl Heinrich Graun's opera Montezuma and in Janacek's opera Osud. She has received local attention and has been performing well.

After returning to Korea, Hyun-Soo Yoo was invited to the regular concert of the Seoul Motet Choir and performed as the soloist, including Antonio Vivaldi's Beatus Vir RV 597; J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion BWV 245, Matthäus-Passion BWV 244, Weihnachts-Oratorium BWV 248, Cantata Bleib bei uns, denn es will Abend werden BWV 6, Cantata Man singet mit Freuden von Sieg BWV 149, Missa brevis in G minor BWV 235, Magnificat in D Major BWV 243; George Frideric Handel's Messiah; L.v. Beethoven's Choral Fantasy and Symphony No. 9; Verdi's Requiem; W.A. Mozart's Requiem, Missa brevis in C Major; Camille Saint-Saëns' Christmas Oratorio, Rossini's Stabat Mater, Charles Gounod's Te Deum, etc. She continues to be active as a professional performer.

Currently Hyun-Soo Yoo serves as a member of Korean/German Art Song Society, Korea Schubert Association and Ensemble Primadonna as well as Professor of vocal music at Hansei University.
