Chia Yee Yean (Soprano)

Born: Malaysia

The Malaysian soprano, Chia Yee Yean, received her early singing lesson from Wai Yinn Chin and LuluYip. A chorister since her school days, she furthered her studies abroad at the Vienna Academy of Music and Performing Arts. Under the tutelage of Hilda De Groote and Helga Wagner, she graduated in 2004 majoring in vocal performance. After her graduation, she furthered her vocal studies with Lim Shieh Yih, Nancy Yuen (Singapore) and Cecilia Yap (Malaysia).

An active recitalist, Chia Yee Yean has sung at many concerts in Austria, Singapore and Malaysia, which includes J.S. Bach's B minor Mass (BWV 232), George Frideric Handel's Messiah and Felix Mendelssohn's oratorio St Paul under the baton of Maestro Lee Chong Min.

In 2007, she performed at the ‘Voices of the Generation' concert in Johor Bahru, collaborating with Chen Hsing An, Armando Chin Yong and Elaine Pao. She performed in the ‘Songs of Victory' concert with the Johor Chorale Society. She was also invited to sing in the ‘Liederabend' - German Art Song Series organized by the Goethe Institute and the Artists Platform. With her stunning performance in the German programmes, she trilled the audience from Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Ipoh and Johor Bahru. In 2008, she performed in J.S. Bach's cantata BWV 140. Furthermore, she was also participated in recitals organized by the Artist Platform.

Currently, other than her concertizing commitment, Chia Yee Yean is also working both as a chorus trainer and a vocal tutor. She has been frequently invited to perform and asked to give vocal training in different churches, choral societies and music organizations.
