The Japanese pianist and harpsichordist, Toshiyuki Yamana (Japanese: 山名 敏之 ), graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts, Department of Instrumental Music (Piano major); and from the Sweelinck Music Conservatory in Amsterdsam, the Netherlands with a soloist diploma in piano and fortepiano. He studied piano under Kazuko Yasukawa and Willem Bronze, and fortepiano under Stanley Holland.
Toshiyuki Yamana appeared on NHK "Pia Pier" 11th-14th, special feature on requests by viewer voting and "Special feature: Completely preserved version of Pia Pier". In 2009-2012, with a scientific research grant, he performed and studied all Haydn keyboard works under the title of "Haydn Clavier Encyclopedia" by clavichord, harpsichord, and fortepiano. Based on the results, the CD "Haydn and the keyboard instruments that colored the 18th century" was highly evaluated in Record Art, Asahi Shimbun, Ongaku no Tomo, Chopin, and Music Contemporary. .. Appeared in Yokohama Minato Mirai Hall lecture concert series "History of Piano" and Kikuko Ogura's "Room with Mozart's Keyboard".
In addition to having solo concerts, Toshiyuki Yamana organizes private lectures using original classical instruments (origin of pianos) to introduce original music to Japan. He received the Okuwa Culture Encouragement Award. He is Professor in Faculty of Education at Wakayama University. He is a member of the Japan Music Society, the Japan Music Expression Society, and the Japan Harpsichord Association. |
