The Chines pianist, Shiqi Xu, graduasted from from Changchun Second Experimental Middle School (长春市第二实验中学) in China (2013-2016). She then moved to the USA as a Chinese international student and studied Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin (2017-2020), under the tutelage of Wael Farouk. While still a freshman, she won the 2017 4th Annual Carthage Philharmonic Concerto Competition, and performed Frédéric Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 2 with Carthage Philharmonic and conductor, Dr. Kawakami. She was involved as a pianist playing with Carthage Wind Ensemble and Carthage Philharmonic for several times, and was appreciate to have change perform in Chicago Concert Hall. She was a member of pits accompanied for the main stage music theatres, as well as the accompanist for the opera workshops and solo instrumental ensemble.
Shiqi Xu is a senior music major with concentrations. She has a constant chamber music partner who plays the violin, and has successfully performed several recitals. Shiqi also collaborated as an accompanist in numerous musical performances on campus, including in a chamber duo with violinist Mary Kelly Hutchinson, who performed Frédéric Chopin’ Sonatensatz in the finale concert of the monumental Brahms Project. She was the tutor for both music theory and aural skills (2017-2020). She worked for Carthage Arts Academy as a piano faculty, and also for Carthage Keyboard Program as an assistant. She graduated from Carthage College in spring 2020 with honors.
In addition to other prominent piano programs, Shiqi Xu was accepted into the Master of Music in Piano Performance program at the Manhattan School of Music, studying with the renowned Solomon Mikowsky, one of the most sought-after piano teachers in the world, beginning in the fall of 2020. In addition to having the honor of being one of the handful of students that Dr. Mikowsky accepted, she was also accepted at and offered generous scholarships by Peabody Conservatory, the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University, and the Mannes School of Music. She currently lives in in Manhattan, New York. |
