Guilhem Worms (Bass-Baritone)

Born: June 4, 1990 - France

The French bass-baritone, Guilhem Worms, began his musical training at an early age learning to play the violin. He studied Musicology at Université d'Évry-Val-d'Essonne (2008-2010) and Ethnomusicology at Université Paris VIII Vincennes - Saint-Denis (2010-2012). He then studied voice under Pierre Mervant, Agnès Mellon and Jean-Paul Fouchécourt at the École Supérieure de Musique (ESM) Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in Dijon, ultimately earning a degree in singing (2012-June 2016). He also earned a diploma at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris in the class of Yves Sotin (September 2015-June 2017). In April 2015, he won the Talents Lyriques, Voix Sacrées singing contest in Reims which marked the beginning of his collaboration with Jean-Claude Malgoire.

Soon thereafter, Guilhem Worms sang George Frideric Handel's Messiah at the Flâneries Musicales in Reims in 2015, J.S. Bach’s St John’s Passion BWV 245 (Jesus, Pilate) with different ensembles, and the role of Frère Bernard in Messiaen’s Saint François d’Assise at the 2016 Olivier Messiaen Festival. During the 2016-2017 season, he sang in a production of Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo (Spirito 3) at the Dijon Opera and performed the role of Geronimo in Cimarosa’s Il matrimonio segreto with the Conservatoire de Paris. The following season, he made his role debut as Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées and performed in the regions in the CFPL’s and the Théâtre des Champs Elysées’ productions for young audiences. He has performed W.A. Mozart’s Requiem with Michel Piquemal’s Vittoria Choir and Bartabas at La Villette as well as with Jean-Claude Malgoire at the Tourcoing Opera Studio and the Opéra Royal in Versailles. His roster of roles also includes Gottfried in Les Fées du Rhin at the Tours Opera, Lord Rochefort in Anna Bolena at the Bordeaux Opera, a Lackey in Ariadne auf Naxos at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées and the Luxembourg Opera, the First Priest and the Second Armoured Man in W.A. Mozart Die Zauberflöte at the Marseille Opera, and Leporello in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni at the Saint-Étienne Opera. He also appeared in a revival of Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Tours Opera. More recently, he was nominated in the Best New Opera Artist category at the 2019 Victoires de la Musique Classique.

An artist with a social conscience, Guilhem Worms has been a volunteer for several years assisting people with mental illnesses at the Conservatoire des Deux Vallées. He also teaches Human Beatboxing in France and in India. Guilhem Worms has a Degree in Ethnomusicology from the Université de Paris 8 and has published a book Musique sans frontière.
