The Canadian baritone (and conductor), Paul Winkelmans, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance from University of Manitoba (2012-2015); and his Master of Music degree in Voice and Opera from Schulich School of Music of McGill University (2015-2017).
Paul Winkelmans has recently relocated to Toronto. An experienced singer in both concert and operatic work, he enjoys sharing his love of music in a range of eras and styles. Recent opera credits include Schaunard in Puccini’s La Boheme (Fraser Lyric Opera), Aeneas in the double bill of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas/Rolfe’s Aeneas and Dido (Manitoba Underground Opera), Leporello in W.A. Mozart’s Don Giovanni (Manitoba Underground Opera), Des Grieux in Massenet’s Le portrait de Manon (Opera McGill), both Frank and Frosch in Strauss’s Die Fledermaus (Opera McGill), Papageno in W.A. Mozart's The Magic Flute (Manitoba Underground Opera), Milord Arespingh in Cimarosa’s L’italiana in Londra (Fear No Opera), and Jacob Grimm in Opera NUOVA’s touring production of Dean Burry’s The Brothers Grimm.
In concert, Paul Winkelmans has performed as the bass soloist in George Frideric Handel’s Messiah (Via Choralis), Haydn’s The Creation (Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra), G.F. Handel’s Israel in Egypt (McGill Baroque Orchestra), Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem (Elmer Iseler Singers), J.S. Bach’s Cantata Ihr Menschen, rühmet Gottes Liebe, BWV 167 (Ensemble Énigme), Goodall’s Eternal Light: A Requiem (McGill University Chorus) and W.A. Mozart’s Requiem (Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra).
Paul Winkelmans currently works as a freelance singer in Toronto, Ontario (since September 2017). He is currently singing as a baritone with the Elmer Iseler Singers, and as a soloist at Lawrence Park Community Church, where he is also Interim Director of Music (Since January 2021). He has also sung as as a soloist with organizations such as Manitoba Underground Opera, Fraser Lyric Opera, Schooner Cove Singers, Christ Church Cathedral Victoria, Amadeus Choir, MYOpera, FAWN chamber creative, Georgian Bay Concert Choir, and The Cellar Singers. He has also recently completed a Graduate Certificate in Arts Administration and Cultural Management through Humber College (2019-2020).. |
