Carel Willink (Bass)

Born: February 2, 1914 - Winterswijk, the Netherlands
Died: April 19, 1995 - Amsterdam, the Netherlands

The Dutch bass (earlier a bariton), Carel Willink, studied singing with Sophia van Sante (1925-2007) and piano with George van Renesse (1909-1994) in Amsterdam.

After World War II, Carel Willink became a member of Felix de Nobel's Nederlands Kamerkoor (Dutch Chamber Choir) with which he visited many countries, among which the USA and South Africa. Next to the activities for the choir, he was a soloist in many other performances, notably J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) (there exists a recording from 1955 with Piet van Egmond) and Johannes-Passion (BWV 245), and of Dukas' Ariane and Barbe Bleu (on Dutch radio) and Igor Stravinsky, The flood (on Dutch TV).

Carel Willink also gave lessons of singing and piano playing (a well-known pupil was Polo de Haas). He died of kidney failure in 1995.
