Michael Solomon Williams (Tenor)

Born: London, England

The English tenor, Michael Solomon Williams, was a music scholar at the City of London School and a graduate of the BMus programme at the University of Leeds and the University of North Texas College of Music,. He was awarded the Dixon scholarship for the MA in Vocal Studies at York, graduating with distinction. . He is an alumnus of the Britten-Pears Young Artists programme at Aldeburgh.

A solo, chorus, consort and session singer in much demand across England and Europe, Michael Solomon Williams works frequently with groups such as the The Academy of Ancient Music, London Voices and Philharmonia Voices, as well as with leading European period ensembles including Le Concert d'Astrée (Emmanuelle Haïm), Les Eléments (J. Subihiette), Stradivaria (Daniel Cuiller), Ensemble Matheus (Jean-Christophe Spinosi) and Le Cercle d’Harmonie (J. Rhorer).

His solo repertoire includes the Evangelist in both J.S. Bach's Passions (BWV 244, BWV 245) and Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248), as well as Saint Nicolas by Benjamin Britten, Messiah by George Frideric Handel, Elijah by Felix Mendelssohn, Vespers by Monteverdi, and the role of Evangelist in the Weinachts-Histoire by Heinrich Schütz, in which his 2011 performance at Cadogan Hall was hailed by The Independent as "remarkable...a real star turn".

Concert and opera work has taken Michael Solomon Williams to most of the major venues in London and the major opera houses and concert halls of Europe, and he is equally at home on the recital stage, being a committed exponent of lieder, mélodie and English Songs. In the studio he has appeared on soundtracks for several major Hollywood releases, trailers and albums, and records regularly at Abbey Road studios.
