The American baritone singer and voice instructor, Mitchell A. Widmer, obtained his Bachelor’s degree in German Studies, Vocal Performance from the University of Iowa (2011-2016); and his Master of Music degree in Classical Voice from the Manhattan School of Music (2016-2018). During his time at the Manhattan School of Music, he was employed as a chorister at the historic Riverside Church. He currently studies for his Doctorate of Music at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
Mitchell Widmer has been a young artist with Cedar Rapids Opera Theater, The International Vocal Arts Institute, and Musik Theater Bavaria. Most recently he was awarded a United States Teaching Assistantship in coordination with the Fulbright Austria Commission for two years to further his musical studies in Vienna, Austria (October 2018-2020). During this time he was Language Assistant at Kirchliche Pädagogische Hochschule Wien/Krems. He has participated in master-classes and workshops with Mignon Dunn, Catherine Malfitano, Jennifer Larmore, Patricia Risley, Ashley Putnam, and Tony Award Winning Actress Alice Ripley.
Recent roles have included Gugliemo in W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte, Pelléas in Pelléas et Mélisande, and Orpheus in Georg Philipp Telemann's Orpheus. Chorus work includes W.A. Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito at the Manhattan School of Music, Il Trovatore at Stadttheater Freiburg, and Goldmark's Die Königin von Saba at Stadttheater Freiburg as well as Orff's Carmina Burana, J. Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass, Francis Poulenc's Gloria, J. Haydn's Missa in tempore belli, Gustav Mahler's The Resurrection Symphony, Mercutio in Charles Gounod's Roméo et Juliette at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music (October 2023). He currently lives in Bloomington, Indiana. |
