The Danish harpsichordist and fortepianist, Monica Westheimer, studied the haspsichord at The Royal Danish Conservatory of Music (Det Kgl. Danske Musikkonservatorium) in Frederiksberg with Karen Englund and Jesper Christensen, and at courses abroad. She has attended many studies at the Danish Institute of Art and Science in Rome, where she has performed concerts and studied music by Girolamo Frescobaldi, Alessandro Scarlatti and Domenico Scarlatti and George Frideric Handel.
Monica Westheimer made her debut as a soloist in 1983. She is a member of a wide range of early music ensembles and has performed on many concert tours in Europe. Currently, she is a member of the ensembles Le Dolci Donne (with singer & tilting Agnethe Christensen and singer Merete Sveistrup), Westheimer-Vist-Flensborg (with soprano Bente Vist and mandolin player Tove Flensborg), and Lady Baroque (with Baroque flautist Pernille Petersen and Baroque violinist Merete Steffensen). She has extensive knowledge of Italian music and culture, and Italy is the preferred travel partner. She also plays Viennese classical music on fortepiano / hammerlavier, and has released a CD titled "Haydn in England".
Monica Westheimer has recorded CD's on the labels Danacord and Classico, including music by J.S. Bach, Girolamo Frescobaldi and Matthias Weckmann, and has also recorded programs for DR and other radio stations.
Monica Westheimer was teacher at the at the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, Denmark until 2012. She is now a teacher at the conservatory in Esbjerg. Among her pupils: Ingeborg Christophersen. |
