The German choral conductor and organist, Joachim Weller, received from 1998 piano lessons in Aachen. At the age of 12 he took his first organ lessons. In December 2004, he was awarded the Arndt-Adorf-Stiftung sponsorship prize for young musicians in Betzdorf/Sieg. From 2005 to 2009 he was a young student at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln with Professor Johannes Geffert in the organ department. He is also a multiple award winner at the state and federal level in the “Jugend musiziert” competition in the organ solo, duo and piano accompaniment categories. After graduating from high school, he completed a voluntary social year at the Kölner Dommusik / Musikschule des Kölner Domchores. He is also a scholarship holder of the Richard Wagner Association in Siegen. He studied for his Master of Music degree in Church Music and Music Education at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln in the organ class of Professor Johannes Geffert and Domorganist Professor Dr. Winfried Bönig and in the choir conducting class of Professor Robert Göstl and Professor Reiner Schuhenn, graduating in 2017. Regular organ concerts - including as a soloist together with the Heidelberger Kantatenorchester and as part of the Kultursommers Rheinland-Pfalz - complement his musical training.
From 2010 to 2014, Joachim Weller worked as an organist and choir director in the Pfarrei St. Marien in Hachenburg in the Westerwald, and from January 2014 to August 2015 he directed the Kammerchor Kettwig. From His time as Musical Assistant to Domkapellmeister Eberhard Metternich at the Hohen Dom zu Köln February 2014 to August 2015 was very formative for him. Since September 2015, he is Domkantor at Kaiser- und Mariendom in Speyer. In this role he directs the Speyerer Domsingknaben. He also supports the Speyerer Domsingknaben in rehearsals for the various cathedral music choirs. |
