The German soprano, Silvia Weiss, studied at the Hochschule der Künste (HdK) Berlin and attended the Lied class of Aribert Reimann.
With her operatic debut at the Berliner Kammeroper in Henze's Elegie für junge Liebende, Silvia Weiss began an international solo concert career. She worked e.g. together with Nikolaus Harnoncourt (Berliner Philharmoniker) in Weber's Freischütz, Marek Janowski (DSO/Dresdner Philharmonie) in Robert Schumann's Faust-Szenen, Michael Gielen (BSO) in Haydn's Jahreszeiten, Ivor Bolton (Mozarteum Orchester Salzburg) in Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Oratorium, Jun Märkll (Münchner Rundfunkorchester), Wagner's Feen, with Baroque ensemble (Orchester Wiener Akademie, Concerto Köln, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin) as well as contemporary ensembles (Scharoun Ensemble, Musica Viva Dresden, Ensemble Neue Musik Berlin).
Opera engagements have led Silvia Weiss to the Deutsche Oper Berlin (under Christian Thielemann), Brandenburger Theater, Theatre de la Monnaie in Brussels, Wuppertaler Bühnen, Staatstheater Schwerin. The focus of her operatic repertoire are roles from Baroque, Classical and Italian opera (Romilda, Konstanze, Gilda, Violetta).
Silvia Weiss has also appeared at prestigious festivals like the Salzburger Osterfestspielen, Biennale di Venezia, Dresdner Musikfestspielen, Berliner Festwochen, Grazer Styriarte, Ultraschallfestival Berlin, as well as the Potsdamer Schlossfestspiele and the Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele. With the pianist Karola Theill she developed classical and romantic Lieder programmes with a focus on late Romantic / early 20th Century. |
