The German counter-tenor, Etienne Walch, was in 2007 a pupil of special classe for music at the Goethe-Gymnasium/Rutheneum in Gera. Originally baritone, he moved in 2010 into the compartment of the counter-tenor and was promoted as such by his teacher Margret Boettcher. In 2010 he won 2nd prize in the category "Ensemble Alte Musik" at the national competition "Jugend musiziert". 2011 followed 1st prize in the category "Singing". A year later, he received a scholarship from the Free State of Thuringia for musically gifted children and adolescents. Since 2012, he studied classical singing at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" in Leipzig with Professor Christina Wartenberg.
In addition to his work as an ensemble singer with Musica Sacra Dresden, Consart, Thios Omilo, and the Chursächsischen Kammerchor, Etienne Walch has also performed successfuly as a soloists. He has sung, for example. in Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria, Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah, George Frideric Handel's Messiah, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Stabat Mater or Dietrich Buxtehude's Membra Jesus Nostri. In 2014 he made his opera debut in the role of Artaxerxes in the rediscovered opera The Honour of Arbaces by Lady Mary Stuart. In the same year he sang at the Dresden's Frauenkirche, under the direction of Susanne Rohn and accompanied by Johann Rosenmüller Ensemble, and the Konzertchor Bad Homburg, works of Michael Altenburg and Giovanni Gabrieli. In March 2015, he sang the role of Ernesto in J. Haydn's Il mondo della luna in free musical theater project "Szene12". |
