Friederike Wagner (Soprano)

Born: Plochingen/Neckar, Germany

The German soprano Friederike Wagner studied at the Würzburg Musikhochschule with Hanno Blaschke, with whom she continued her studies at the Munich Musikhochschule. There she was also a pupil of Reri Grist, taking her master-class diploma in 1988. She continued her studies in courses with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Arleen Augér and Jessica Cash among others. In 1986 she was awarded a special prize at the International Lieder Competition in Vienna, and in 1988 she was a prize-winner in the Song and Oratorio Competition of the Bavarian Artists’ Union.

Friederike Wagner appeared as a soloist in oratorio and as a Lieder singer in Berlin, Hamburg, Mainz, Salzburg, Paris, Lyon and elsewhere, with regular Lieder recitals in Stuttgart, Frankfurt and Munich. Festival performances included appearances as a soloist at the International Bach Festival of Schaffhausen with the Münchener Bach-Chor under Hanns-Martin Schneidt and the Ratisbon Spring in Orff’s Carmina Burana, conducted by Sir Colin Davis.

In addition to frequent broadcasts, Friederike Wagner has made number of recordings, including an acclaimed CD recording of Bach solo cantatas. She teaches at the Salzburg Mozarteum.
