The German baritone, Markus Volpert, studied first with Wolfgang Gamerith in Oberschützen and Graz and continued his training with Kurt Widmer in Basel. After finishing his studies with the solo diploma with honor, he particpated im master-classes with Sena Jurinac, Christa Ludwig, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and Thomas Quasthoff.
Markus Volpert was finalist and scholarship holder of the German Music Competition in Berlin and for two seasons also member of the International Opera Studio in Zürich. In the autumn 2001 he won the first prize of the Anneliese-Rothenberger competition. In he following year he sang Simon in The Seasons by Haydn under the conducting of Réné Jacobs in Berlin, Cologne, Brussels, Rome, Paris and Madrid. He is winner of the International Bach Competition in Leipzig.
For several years Markus Volpert has appeared as a guest with various Festivals, such as the Salzburg Festival, the Ludwigsburg Festival and the Styriarte. With the pianist Bernd Schäfer he became the baritone scholarship holder of Swiss Elvira Luethi Donation, as well as winner of the Graz Competition "Franz Schubert and the Modern Music" in February 2000. The two artists appear regularly successfully with various programmes of Lieder recitals. Apart from his numerous concerts, he could be heard in 2003 at the Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele in Titus and at the Theater Basel in Freischütz. |
