Christian Voigt (Tenor)

Born: Berlin, Germany

The German tenor, Christian Voigt, studied singing with Heinz Reeh at the Hanns Eisler Musikhochschule in Berlin from 1990 to 1995, and admitted to Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau's Lieder class in Berlin. In 1995 he was prize-winner of the 6th International Mozart-Competition Salzburg.After graduating he continued his studies with Peter Schreier, Josef Protschka, Kurt Equiluz, Wolfram Rieger and René Kollo. Voigt was scholarship holder of Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes.

Christian Voigt has appeared in several European countries like Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Denmark, Poland, Estonia, Hungaria under important orchestras like Chamber Orchestra of Europe, La Chapelle Royale/Orchestre des Champs-Elysees, Staatskapelle Berlin, Bach-Collegium Stuttgart, Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra. He worked together with famous conductors like Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Helmuth Rilling, Philippe Herreweghe, Gerd Albrecht, Dietfried Bernet, Will Humburg, Michael Schönwandt.

Christian Voigt is also a frequent guest at the music festivals Styriarte Graz, Richard-StraussFestspiele Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bad Hersfelder Opernfestspiele, Wiener Festwochen, Dresdner Musikfestspiele, Schwetzinger Festspiele, Schubertiade Feldkirch.

On CD Christian Voigt has sung in Schubert/Edison Denisov's Lazarus with Helmuth Rilling, and in 1998 he was engaged for concerts and CD recordings in Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris with Philippe Herreweghe and the La Chapelle Royale, as well as a Lieder concert at the Schubertiade Feldkirchen and as a soloist with Nikolaus Harnoncourt in Robert Schumann's Das Paradies und die Peri.

In the 2003-2004 season, Christian Voigt appeared fist time at Staatsoper Hannover and Oper Frankfurt/M. In summer 2005 he sung Erik in Fliegender Holländer at Opera House Izmir and in the Arena of Aspendos.In the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 seasons he appeared as Erik in Fliegender Holländer, Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus, Max in Der Freischütz and Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos at Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck. The Opera House Prague engaged him for Erik in Fliegender Holländer in spring and autumn 2008.

From December 2008 on, Christian Voigt is a member of the Opera House Freiburg, where he is singing some very important parts - Siegmund in Walküre, and La Vida Breve with C. Bieito as stage director. In 2009-2010 season he sang in Freiburg Narraboth in Salome by Richard Strauss, Oberon in Oberon by C.M. von Weber, Cavaradossi in Tosca by G. Puccini and Siegfried in Götterdämmerung by Richard Wagner. In the maganzine Opernwelt he was nominated as best new singer of 2010. In 2010-2011 season he sang both Siegfrieds in the complete staging of Der Ring des Nibelungen by Richard Wagner in Freiburg. There will be two more Der Ring des Nibelungen in 2011-2012 in Freiburg. From February to June 2012 he sings Siegmund in Richard Wagner’s Walküre at the State-Theatre Oldenburg. On March 6, 2011, he debuted as Siegfried in Richard Wagner’s opera Siegfried under the direction of Maestro Philippe Jordan at the Opera Bastille in Paris, and in May as well as Siegfried at Staatsoper Hannover. It was an overwhelming experience and a large success for him. In autumn 2011 Voigt sang the same role in a new production with Staatstheater Darmstadt. In January 2012 he debuted with great success as Lohengrin in Freiburg.

Beside his engagements as an opera-singer at several opera houses in Europe, Christian Voigt appears as a concert- and recital singer. Numerous broadcasting- and disk-recordings are documents of his high artistic standard.
