The Russian pianist, Anna Vinnitskaya, received her first piano lessons from her mother at the age of 6, played her first orchestral concert when she was 8 years old, and her first recital at the age of 9. After studies at the Sergei Rachmaninoff Conservatory in Rostov-on-Don with Sergej Osipenko, she began studying with Evgeni Koroliov at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater in Hamburg in 2002.
Anna Vinnitskaya has won several international piano competitions and received numerous awards. She entered the competition circuit at age 13, winning first prize at the International Junoshenki competition in 1995. In 2000 she achieved a third place at the Monza Competition and two years later (2002) first place at the Jaèn Competition, where she also won the Audience Award. This was followed with a first prize at the Elise Meyer Competition in Hamburg in 2004, and the fourth prize in the Ferruccio Busoni International Competition in Bolzano in 2005. On June 2, 2007, she won first prize in the Queen Elisabeth Music Competition in Brussels. After a memorable Gaspard de la nuit (Ravel) in the first rounds, she impressed the audience and jury in the final round with L.v. Beethoven's Sonata No.13 in E flat "Quasi una fantasia", Op. 27 No.1; the compulsory work La Luna y la Muerte by Miguel Gálvez-Taroncher; and the Piano Concerto No. 2 by Sergei Prokofiev. Vinnitskaya was only the second woman in the history of the competition for piano to win the first prize, after Ekaterina Novitskaya in 1968. In 2008 she received the Leonard Bernstein Award of the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival (2008). For the past three years, she has taken part in the concert series “Junge Wilde” at the Konzerthaus Dortmund. This special series presents young artists who pursue ambitious international careers.
As a soloist, Anna Vinnitskaya regularly performs with renowned orchestras such as Dortmunder Philharmoniker, Münchner Philharmoniker, Sinfonieorchester des Norddeutschen Rundfunks Hamburg, Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart, Radio-Symphonie-Orchester-Berlin, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Moscow Symphony Orchestra, Milan Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid, and KBS Symphony Orchestra/Seoul. She collaborates with conductors Andrey Boreyko, Alan Buribayev, Charles Dutoit, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Pietari Inkinen, Marek Janowski, Dimitri Jurowski, Emmanuel Krivine, Louis Langrée, Yoel Levi, Kyrill Petrenko, Krzysztof Urbański, Juraj Valcuha, and Gilbert Varga. Upcoming performances include concerts with the National Orchestra of Belgium, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Museumsorchester/ Frankfurt, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, New Japan Philharmonic, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, National Philharmonic of Russia, and the Orquestra Filarmônica de Minas Gerais in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. She has given recitals all around Europe The summer of 2011 marked Anna Vinnitskaya’s successful debut at the Lucerne Festival. In the field of chamber music, she regularly plays as a trio with the violinist Erik Schumann and the cellist Nicolas Altstaedt.
In April 2009, Anna Vinnitskaya’s debut album was published on the French label Naïve, featuring works by Sergei Rachmaninov, Sofia Gubaidulina, Medtner and Prokofiev. This recording was awarded the “Diapason d’Or” as well as the “Choc du Mois” by Classica Magazine. It was also nominated for a Midem-Classical Award. In October 2010, her first orchestral CD followed. As soloist of the Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin conducted by Gilbert Varga, she recorded Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 2 and Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G major. This album earned her an ECHO Klassik award in October 2011. In March 2012, she released her third CD with several masterpieces of Maurice Ravel such as Miroirs and Gaspard de la nuit. It was immediately awarded the “Diapason d’Or”. The album, which was recorded in Berlin in the autumn of 2011, demonstrates Anna Vinnitskaya’s abundant musicality and virtuosity. In her ardent performance, she commands breathtaking art of phrasing and immaculate technique, combined with captivating stylistic confidence.
Anna Vinnitskaya was appointed professor of piano at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater in Hamburg in 2009. |
