The Austrian contralto, Lydia Vierlinger, began her musical education playing violin and piano and after her A-levels first continued her studies in New York/USA to then enrol in the classes for solo voice and vocal pedagogy at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna .
Lydia Vierlinger has worked with Diane Forlano in London and with Herwig Reiter in Vienna. Since 2004 she has served as associate professor teaching voice at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna .
Possessing a lot of ensemble experience (Nova, Voces and Arnold Schoenberg Chor) Lydia Vierlinger has become a singer in demand for early music. As a soloist she works with conductors like Adam Fischer, Ingo Metzmacher, Rene Clemencic, Martin Haselböck, Adrian Leaper, Erwin Ortner, Michael Radulescu, Jörg Zwicker and others, mainly performing oratorios and sacred music. Thus far she has appeared at the Salzburg Festival, OsterKlang Vienna, Haydn Festival Eisenstadt, Wiener Festwochen, Wien Modern, Klangbogen Wien, Carinthian Summer, Styriarte, Festival LeMans, at the opening concert for the World Cultural Capital Salamanca, in Barcelona and in the Grande Scuola di San Rocco in Venice .
In 2003 Lydia Vierlinger toured the Netherlands with J.S. Bach's St. Matthew's Passion (BWV 244) performing also in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. In Madrid she sang with the Radio Symphony Orchestra Madrid. A further great success was the Renaissance programme she staged with the New World Gamba Consort in the summers of 2003 and 2004.
Lydia Vierlinger has already given various recitals (Brucknerhaus/Linz, Steinway-Haus/Vienna, Schloss Esterhazy/Eisenstadt, Bezirksfestwochen/Vienna, Brunnental etc.). A duet-recital performed at the ORF (AustrianBroadcastinCorporation) has been recorded for CD in January 2002. Moreover, those "Romantic Duets" were performed at the Konzerthaus Vienna, in Prague, Berlin, Sarajewo and furthermore at the Gmundner Festwochen. Starting with a concert in Moscow in March 2005, a "Romantic-Duets tour" of Europe and the USA is planned. A CD "Baroque Duets" starring the same cast of singers is in preparation. Often, she has given recital evenings singing Scottish folk songs arranged by Haydn and L.v. Beethoven, recently performing at the RadioKulturhaus with "The blue bell of Scotland" - songs and duets with pianoforte-trio.
In 2005 Lydia Vierlinger starts her Asia-tour of J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor (BWV 232) which will also take her to Singapore; performances of his St. John's Passion (BWV 245) are scheduled for Italy (Milan, Savona, Ravenna and others). For the world première of the long-lost Georg Philipp Telemann opera Pastorelle en musique Lydia Vierlinger appeared at the Festwochen Gmunden and Piber in 2003 and in the role of Amyntas in the Golden Concerthall of the Musikverein Vienna in 2004. A solo-CD with arias by George Frideric Handel (accompaniment: Capella Leopoldina Graz under Jörg Zwicker) was recorded in the Hofmusikkapelle Vienna in February 2004. She gave a guest performance of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's St. Matthew's Passion at the Old Opera Frankfurt in 2003 and in the course of Whitsun/Baroque in Salzburg. 2005 she will perform in a variety of programmes at the Mozart Festival Würzburg.
