Varvara Nepomnyashchaya (Piano)

Born: 1983 - Moscow, Russia

The Russian pianist, Varvara Nepomnyashchaya (known simply as Varvara), graduated in 2007 from the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory (piano class of Mikhail Voskresensky, also studying in the chamber ensemble class of Oleksandr Bondurianskyi). From 2011 to 2013 she studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg under the tuition of Evgeni Koroliov. She went on to study under Vladimir Krainev, Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, Dmitri Bashkirov and Andrzej Jasiński. She is prize-winner at the International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition Leipzig (2006, 2nd prize), Nagoya International Music Competition (Japan, 2008, 2nd prize), European Piano Competition Bremen (2009, 3rd prize) and Prague Spring festival (2011, 3rd prize) among others. In 2012 she was awarded 1st prize at the Concours Géza Anda in Zürich; moreover, the jury also awarded her the special prize for the best performance of a concerto by W.A. Mozart, and for her performance of L.v. Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 she received the audience award.

Varvara is curious about every form of art and her wide repertoire includes all different periods. She has quickly established a remarkable musical reputation by performing with many of world’s most prestigious orchestras including Varvara has appeared with the Mariinsky Orchestra, the Wiener Kammerorchester, Tonhalle Orchester Zürich, SWR Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart, Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National de Lille, and Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra, Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Bilbao Symphony, Valencia Symphony, Galicia Symphony or Santiago de Chile Philharmonic among other ensembles, playing under the baton of such conductors as Eliahu Inbal, Valery Gergiev, David Zinman, Cornelius Meister, Tamás Vásáry, Clemens Schuldt, Alexander Liebreich, Yaron Traub or Vladimir Fedoseyev.

Varvara has appeared in Russia, Germany, France, Spain, Poland, Italy, Austria, Japan, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Hungary. As a recitalist, she has offered numerous concerts at Tonhalle Zürich, Auditorio Madrid, Conservatory Moscow, Philharmonie Paris, Palau de la Música Barcelona, Le Corum Montpellier, Conservatorio Verdi Milano, Auditorio Lingotto Torino, Auditorium Lyon, Mariinsky Theatre, Rudolfinum Prague, Mozarteum Salzburg and Konzerthaus Dortmund. She has taken part in numerous music festivals including the Ruhr Piano Festival, Septembre Musical Montreux-Vevey Festival, Yehudi Menuhin Festival in Gstaad, Lucerne Piano Festival, Musical Olympus in St Petersburg and the Spring Festival in Budapest.

Her enthusiasm about chamber music led her to the foundation of a stable duo together with the violinist Fumiaki Miura, as well as a piano trio with the cellist Jonathan Roozeman.

Highlights of the upcoming season 2019-2020 season include her debut at Suntory Hall with Tokyo Symphony Orchestra with Jonathan Nott, Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia with Vladimir Fedoseyev, Euskadi Symphony Orquestra with MeiAnn Chen, Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano with Michele Mariotti or Mariinsky Theatre with Valery Gergiev. Additionally, she will perform recitals at L'Auditori Barcelona, Teatro Principal Alicante, Théâtre de la Ville Paris, Tonhalle in Zürich, Festival Saint-Denis, Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest, as well as Festivals in Saint-Denis and Festival la Roque d'Anthéron.

er discography includes works by L.v. Beethoven and Robert Schumann (DisCamera, 2013), keyboard suites by George Frideric Handell (2015), works by W.A. Mozart (2017), Franz Liszt (live recorded at Paris Philharmonie and published by DisCamera) and Arvo Pärt (2018).
