Josuè Sureda Valdespino (Conductor)

Born: Cuba

The Cuban-born conductor, Josuè Sureda Valdespino, studied oboe, vocal technique, and majored in composition and conducting at the Higher Institute of Art in Havana, Cuba, and at the Conservatory "G. Rossini" in Pesaro, Italy. He also attended several master-classes in conducting: Bela Bartok Seminar in Hungary with Master Péter Eötvös; in Vienna, Austria with Karl Österreicher, at the Hochschule für Musik Mürzzuschlag with Werner Therichen, E. Smole, and R. Schumacher. He won several Awards and scholarships: UNEAC Prize for composition (Cuba, 1989), Mozart- Stravinsky Prize (Mürzzuschlag, Austria, 1992); Award I.I.L.A. Italolatinoamericano Institute (Rome, 1993).

Josuè Sureda Valdespino was director of the symphony orchestra of the Teatro La Caridad di Santa Clara, Cuba, from 1989 to 1993. He conducted as a guest numerous orchestra, including: the Matanzas Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra; at the National Opera of Cuba three operas: I Pagliacci by R. Leoncavallo, Bastien und Bastienne by Mozart, La serva padrona by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi; Orchestra Proarte Marchigiana (Italy), Civica Orchestra di Fiati of the town of Milan, Orchestra Antonio Vivaldi of Lecco, Chamber Orchestra Arcadia of Pesaro (Italy), Orchestra G.B. Pergolesi in Jesi. He conducted Messiah by George Frideric Handel, with the choir Juan Pablo II of Havana (103 choristers) (Cuba) and the National Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra Romeu, Coro provinciale di Villa Clara (Cuba).

Since 2004 Josuè Sureda Valdespino is Director of the Coro Orlando di Lasso in Milan, along with several orchestras in the Lombardy region. In 2009 he had two important events: in June directed the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra for a concert dedicated to 200th anniversary of Haydn's death in at Havana, and in July at Piano Master Festival in Gravesend (Italy) with the Symphony Orchestra of Bacau (Romania).

Josuè Sureda Valdespino teaches singing at the all'Istituto Civico Musicale Alto Lario in Dongo and Tremendous XXL in Valchiavenna. Since 1996 he lives in Milan, Italy.
