The Amewrican pianist, Elisabeth Tsai, began her musical studies with the cello at the age of 4, and switched to the piano at age 7. She graduated at an early graduate from Hope Christian School; and from 2015, studied at Columbus State University’s Schwob School of Music, where she is the recipient of a full scholarship award. Her major teachers have been Alexander Kobrin, Alina Voicu and and Ronald Shinn.
Elisabeth Tsai has been awarded prizes at numerous regional, national, and international level competitions. In 2014, she was awarded the 1st Prize and Best Solo Award at the Arthur Fraser International Piano Competition, and was given the opportunity to perform with the South Carolina Philharmonic. Also in 2014, she was the 1st Prize winner and the recipient of the Chopin Prize in the national finals of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) 2013-2014 Junior Piano competition. Other first prize awards include the 2014 New York International Artists Competition, the 2014 Blount-Slawson Young Artists Competition, the 2013 Zelpha Wells Piano Competition, the 2012 AND 2015 Lois Pickard Scholarship Competition, and the 2012 Indian Springs Piano Competition. She has been a recurring state winner in the Alabama Music Teachers Association in both the solo and concerto categories. She was named one of five winners in the 2015-2016 Schwob School of Music Concerto Competition. In 2015, she was awarded 3rd Prize at the Hilton Head International Piano Competition. In 2018, she won the Emory Piano Competition.
|Elisabeth has performed in numerous states in the USA. In April 2014, she made her orchestral debut with the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra. She has made appearances also with orchestras such as the South Carolina Philharmonic, Alabama Symphony Orchestra, and Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra. She has performed in Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, and in June 2015 appeared on NPR’s From the Top, a nationally syndicated radio broadcast featuring America’s talented young musicians. She has been a participant at the PianoTexas Festival, Southeastern Piano Festival and Bowdoin International Music Festival, and has played in master-classes with Victor Rosenbaum, Boris Slutsky, Stanislav Ioudenitch, Yong Hi Moon, and Julian Martin. She frequently performs with her older brother Eric Tsai, who is a From the Top Alum. |
