The Dutch light lyric soprano, Nikki Treurniet, studied at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and The Opera Academy in Amsterdam. In 2017, she won several prizes at The International Vocal Competition in ‘s Hertogenbosch, amongst other the Opera prize of The Netherlands.
Nikki Treurniet has established herself as a sensitive and versatile soloist, performing opera, orchestral repertoire and chamber music on international stages. As a light lyric soprano with a lusciously warm sound, she at home in repertoire ranging from the Baroque to newly commissioned works of the present day. She is gaining recognition for her particularly sensitive interpretations of W.A. Mozart and is particularly drawn to the music of the late-romantic French impressionists.
Nikki Treurniet sang with Dutch National Opera Academy for 4 years (2014-2017), Her debut on the opera stage was singing Zerlina in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni. At the academy she also performed the title role in Massenet's Cendrillon with the Residentie Orkest Den Haag (January 2017) and Gretel in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel und Gretel with the Netherlands Youth Orchestra conducted by Antony Hermus (August 2017). In 2017, she made her debut at the Dutch National Opera singing the role of Anima Ingrate in II ballo delle Ingrate as part of the Monteverdi Madrigals staged by Pierre Audi in collaboration with Les Talens Lyriques and Christophe Rousset (May 2017). With the Nederlandse Reisopera she sang in 2019 Mrs. Nordstrom in Sondheim's A Little Night Music on a tour throughout the Netherlands (March-April 2019). After making her debut with the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest in Camille Saint-Saëns' Oratorio de Noël conducted by Ed Spanjaard, she returned to the Zaterdag matinee in Het Concertgebouw to sing Ginevra Scotti in Schreker's Die Gezeichneten, the role of Sorge in Robert Schumann's Szenen aus Goethes Faust and an oratorio concert of J.S. Bach and Verhulst.
For four seasons (2019-2023) Nikki Treurniet was a member of the ensemble at Staatsoper Hannover extending her operatic repertoire roles to include Blanche in Francis Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmelites (October-November 2022), Susanna in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro (January-March 2022; June-July 2023), Pamina in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte (October 2019-January 2020), Despina in W.A. Mozart's Cosi fan tutte (April-July 2021; September-October 2021), Zerlina in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni (September-October 2020), Musica/Euridice in Monteverdi's L'Orfeo, (April-June 2023), Gretel in E. Humperdinck's Hansel und Gretel (November-December 2019; December 2021; December 2022), Lenio in The Greek Passion. During the pandemic she sang the role of Iseut la Blonde in a production of Frank Martin’s Le vin herbé, directed by Wolfgang Nägele (June-July 2020), and received high praise portraying the role of Emmy Perth in Marschner’s Der Vampyr, directed by Ersan Mondtag (March-May 2022). Dauring this period she also worked with other directors as Lydia Steier, Theu Boermans, Wolfgang Nagele and Barbora Horáková.
Nikki Treurniet has an extensive concert repertoire which she performs regularly, including J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion BWV 244, Johannes-Passion BWV 245, Weihnachts-Oratorium BWV 248, and several cantatas, Johannes Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem, George Frideric Handel’s Messiah and W.A. Mozart's Requiem. She was a guest with The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra singing Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 in a master-class for conductors led by Danielle Gatti. She is strongly committed to the performance of Lieder and chamber music and has given recitals in various halls across The Netherlands together with pianists Andrea Vasi and Daan Boertien. In 2022 and 2023 she appeared in recital together with Thomas Beijer at The International Lied Festival Zeist.
This season Nikki Treurniet will sing Gretel in Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel at Staatsoper Hannover and will perform contemporary opera The Shell Trial (March 2024) at the opera forward festival at Dutch National Opera at home in The Netherlands. She will sing J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion BWV 244 on tour with the Philharmonie Zuid Nederland (March 2024) and his Johannes-Passion BWV 245 with the Residentie Bachkoor (March 2024). In the spring she will sing the soprano soloist in Haydn's Die Schopfung in Hannover. She currently lives in Hannover, Germany. |
