Evelinde Trenkner (Piano)

Born: Weimar, Thuringia, Germany

The German pianist, Evelinde Trenkner, daughter of the composer and conductor Werner Trenkner (1902-1981), studied, among others, with Walter Gieseking and Wilhelm Kempff.

Concert tours have taken Evelinde Trenkner to all continents, and she has made radio recordings at home and abroad, LP and CD recordings in the USA and Germany.

Evelinde Trenkner is Professor at the Musikhochschule in Lübeck, artistic director of the annual International Lübeck Chamber Music Festival (Internationalen Lübecker Kammermusikfestes), with works from the period 1870 to 1918 and chairman of Xaver und Philipp Scharwenka-Gesellschaft, promoting the works of these composers and of that era, and supporting young talent.

Evelinde Trenkner has performed worldwide in piano duo with Sontraud Speidel since 1991. Their performances of the four-hand versions of the 6th and 7th Symphonies of Gustav Mahler made a musical history. They have also performed four-hand piano versions of symphonic works by Bruckner and Schubert. The piano duo is not limited to the standard repertoire, but in particular to long-neglected dedicated transcriptions of important works, thus expanding their repertoire.
