The Japanese pianist and music pedagogue, Noboro Toyomase, graduated in 1933 from from Tokyo Institute of Music Arts Instrument. In 1935 , he completed the Graduate School of the same school. From 1936 to 1938, he studied at Berlin Hochschule für Musik (Berlin Music University), studied under Leo Shiota and Frederic · Ramondo.
In 1940, Noboro Toyomase performed in concerts L.v. Beethoven's complete cycle of piano sonatas. In 1942-1943 he was Associate Professor at Tokyo Music School; in 1943-1946 Professor at the same school. In 1950 he began performing in concerts the complete keyboard works of J.S. Bach (15 consecutive concerts) and became the authority of J.S. Bach's performance in Japan. In 1952:, he became a member of the Neue Bachgesellschaft (German New Bach Association). Afterwards, he served as a judge at the Leipzig Bach Competition.
From 1952 to 1961, Noboro Toyomase served as Professor at Kyoto City Music College. In 1956, he performed for the first time as a Japanese pianist in Berliner Philharmoniker's regular concert (conductor is Kyle Belt, César Franck's Symphonic Variations). In 1959, he becamed Music Director of Mukogawa Women's University. In 1961, he received the Japan Art Institute prize (Reason for the award: "Western music (piano) for many years piano movement, especially for Bach's performance"). In 1962, he became a member of the Japan Art Institute. He died in 1975 because of lung cancer, aged 63.
Noboro Toyomase is also known as the piano teacher of Seiji Ozawa, Takahiro Sonoda, Izumi Tateno. Only a few recordings of him remained. |
