The Italian pianist, Giorgia Tomassi, received first piano lessons from her mother. This was to be the start of a long-lasting, deep involvement with music that would lead to her maturation as an artist at the Accademia Pianistica di Imola under the guidance of the Maestro Franco Scala. She won 1st Prize at European Music for Youth Prize Frankfurt (February 1987). Her passionate yet poetically lyrical nature must have proved equally fascinating to the public and jury of the “Arthur Rubinstein” competition held in Tel Aviv in 1992 where she won 1st Prize with a unanimous vote.
Since then Giorgia Tomassi has played at some of the most important European venues: La Scala in Milan, Auditorium of Santa Cecilia in Rome, Wigmore Hall in London, Herculessaal in Munich, Berlin Konzerthaus, as well as in the USA, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, South Korea, Japan. in Japan. Her repertoire ranges from J.S. Bach to the romantics and the music of the 20th century. On June 2003 she has played at Martha Argerich’s Festival in Lugano (Switzerland) also with Martha Argerich (Lutoslawski Paganini’s Variations for two pianos). She is regularly invited to this festival, where she has played together with different artists.
Giorgia Tomassi has played with Martha Argerich, Salvatore Accardo, Domenico Nordio, Geza Hosszu Legocky, Ensemble Wien-Berlin, in a trio with Hansjörg Schellenberger and Milan Turkovic, with Roberto Cominati, Polina Leschenko, Orazio Maione, Alessandro Stella, Danilo Rossi, Alessandro Travaglini, Peter Lukas Graf and Carlo Maria Griguoli.
Giorgia Tomassi’s interpretation of Frédéric Chopin’s Studies Op. 10 and Op. 25, released on CD by EMI Classics in 1997, was welcomed with entusiastic acclaims. In 1999 she recorded, again for EMI, the Concertos for piano and orchestra by Nino Rota with the Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala, directed by the esteemed Maestro Riccardo Muti. She has also recorded with Salvatore Accardo for Fonè, with Domenico Nordio for Amadeus and with Alessandro Stella an album dedicated to the two pianos music of Maurice Ravel. Some of her her performances at Martha Argerich’s Festival in Lugano, including Paganini Variations by Lutoslawski, with Martha Argerich, Introduction et Allegro by Ravel, with Alessandro Stella, Griguoli's trascriptions for three piano of Firebird Suite by Igor Stravinsky and the Moscow, Cheryomushki Suite Op. 105 by Dmitri Shostakovich, with Carlo Maria Griguoli and Alessandro Stella, have been published in the boxes that EMI dedicates annually to the project (2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016).
