The Russian pianist, Nikolai Tokarew [Tokarev], began his musical education in 1988 with Professoe Ada Trau and Professor Wladimir Tropp at the renowned Gnessin School of Music in Moscow, where he graduated in 2001. He continued his studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. In 2004, he graduated with the highest distinction. He had made his debut as early as 1989 with Felix Mendelssohn's first piano concerto.
In 2000 Nikolai Tokarew was awarded the prize at the 10th Eurovision Grand Prix of Young Musicians in Bergen, Norway. Subsequently he performed with the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra and the Osaka Century Symphony Orchestra. In Japan he recorded six CD’s for Musik Leben Inc. In 2005 he held a stipend from the Mozart Society Dortmund e.V. and 2006 from the Richard Wagner Association. His debut at the Ruhr Piano Festival 2005 resulted in two CD’s were produced, one of which was a supplement to the FonoForum in March 2006.
In 2007, Nikolai Tokarew received a long-term contract with the renowned Label Sony/BMG. The first double CD with works by J.S. Bach, Schubert, Frédéric Chopin, Mussorgsky, Prokofiev, Franz Liszt and Rosenblatt appeared in April 2007. His second CD with Sony, French Album, recently appeared, with works by Rameau, Debussy, Ravel and Franck.
Nikolai Tokarew performs regularly at international festivals - Schwetzinger Festpiele, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Rheingau Musik Festival, Kissinger Sommer, Interlaken Music Festival, Davos Music Festival, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. He has performed with numerous orchestras - Janacek Philharmonie, Tonhalle Orchestra Zürich, Dresdner Kapellsolisten, Wiener Kammerorchester, Russian State Academic Symphony Orchestra, National Philharmonic of Russia, Philharmony of Nations, Arnheim Philharmonic Orchestra, Slovakian Philharmonie, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. In Spring 2009 he played with the Bamberger Symphoniker and with the Münchner Philharmoniker. |
