The Belgian conductor, Ignace Thevelein, studied at the Lemmensinstituut te Leuven in Leuven; then was ordained at the Grootseminarie te Brugge. From 1978 to 1985 he studied at the Koninklijk Muziekconservatorium (Royal Music Conservatory) in Gent, where he earned first prizes in music theory, harmony, music and choral conducting. He participated in several advanced courses, including with László Heltay, with Professor Peter Erdei at ‘Zoltan Kodaly Pedagogical Institute of Music in Kecs-kemét Hungary) and with Frauke Haasemann in 'Lehrgang für Chorleitung und Chorische Stimmbildung' in Sankt-Moritz. He also took part in the 'Welt Symposium für Chormusik' in Vienna.
From 1986 to September 1995 Thevelein conducted the Beauvarletkoor, with which he won several awards, made numerous domestic and foreign performances and made CD recordings. He is Artistic Director of the Internationale Bachdagen Brugge (International Bach Days), an organization that annually arranges courses and workshops for choir singers and directors. He is musical advisor and board member of Koor en Stem’ (Choir and Voice) nationally and Chairman of its West Flanders the department. He is the founder and conductor of the concert choir Collegium de Dunis
Ignace Thevelein is church music teacher at the Grootseminarie of Bruges and the Johannes XXIII-seminarie in Leuven. He is responsible for the diocesan church music of the diocese of Bruges and choirmaster of Sint-Salvatorskathedraal in Bruges. He founded there the Brugs Kathedraalkoor, which graces the liturgy in church heyday in the Sint-Salvatorskathedraal in Pontifical Services and the Officium.
Ignace Thevelein published the book Officium and along with Piet Thomas Geestelijk Liedboek van de Lage Landen (Spiritual Songbook of the Low Countries) by Lannoo. Together With Jos Bielen He published on Averbode Publiceerde Wieg hen in jouw eeuwigheid (Cradle them in your eternity), Maria is jouw naam (Mary is your name) and Samuël-liedjes (Samuel songs) and he worked on the composition and publication of the new Zingt Jubilate.(Sing Jubilate), the official hymnal of the Flemish church.. |
