The Japanese-born pianist, teacher, and composer, Emi Tamura, is originally from Tokyo and lived in San Francisco for ten years where she attended San Francisco State University receiving her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in piano performance. She studied piano with Roger Woodward and chamber music with the Alexander String Quartet. She studied performance, composition, improvisation, and multi-media collaboration at the California Institute of the Arts where she received her Master of Fine Arts in their Performer-Composer program.
Emi Tamura has performed in San Francisco and Los Angeles as a soloist, chamber musician, accompanist, and as an orchestral pianist. In addition to being a classical and contemporary pianist, she composes instrumental and electro-acoustic music and enjoys working in the experimental music genre as well as collaborating with dancers, film-makers, and animators. She currently lives in the Los Angeles area. |
