Tünde Szabóki (Soprano)

Born: October 23, ____ - Budapest, Hungary

The Hungarian soprano, Tünde Szabóki, studied in Budapest at the Bartók Béla Vocational Music School (singing, piano, conducting), the Liszt Ferenc Music Academy (piano and singing) and the Music Academy of Graz where she got her diploma as a singer. She took part in the master-courses of Hanne-Lore Kuhse and Astrid Varnay. She got prizes in different prestigious singing competitions: 1994: Belvedere singer competition (Vienna) - Special Prize; 1997: Tagliavini singer competition (Deutschlandsberg) - Fourth Prize and Audience Prize; 2000: Hilde Zadek singer competition (Passau) - Special Prize.

At the beginning it was oratorio that dominated her repertoire. As a concert singer Tünde Szabóki performed at the Salzburg Festival, Bregenz Festival, Styriarte Festival of Graz, Luzern Festival, Rheingau Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Festival, Bernstein Festival of Jerusalem, Musikbiennale of Berlin, Opera Festival of Klosterneuburg, Seefeld Bergfestspiele Tirol, Montpellier festival, Turgutreis (TR) festival. She is a returning guest at the Budapest Spring Festival.

Tünde Szabóki started her opera career in Austria: in 1993-1994, in Graz and in Prague she sang about twenty times the role of Agathe in Weber's Der Freischütz. She sang at the Gran Teatre del Liceu (Barcelona), Prinzregenten Theater (Munich), the theatres of Miskolc and Sopron (Hungary). She is a regular guest in Vienna at the Musikverein, the Konzerthaus, Stephansdom and Augustienerkirche.

Tünde Szabóki also sang in the world premiere of Schubert's Der Graf von Gleichen at the Styriarte Festival (hall-marked by Nikolaus Harnoncourt). In September 2009 she performed at the Theater an der Wien in Benjamin Britten's Death in Venice, where the conductor was Donald C. Runnicles. She first sang the role of Leonora in L.v. Beethoven's Fidelio in 2007, at the Klosterneuburg Festival. This was also her first role at the Hungarian State Opera House in 2008, with Thomas Moser and Ádám Fischer as her partners. Since then she has sung there Vitellia in W.A. Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito, Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier, Donna Elvira in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni and Ariadne in Ariadne auf Naxos. Since 2009 she is a regular guest of the Budapest Wagner-days, where she sang Elisabeth in Tannhäuser, Freia in Das Rheingold, Gerhilde in Die Walküre, the third Norn in Götterdämmerung and Elsa in Lohengrin.

Tünde Szabóki is a guest soloist with several orchestras: the Graz Symphonic Orchestra, Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, Münchner Philharmoniker, Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra, Budapest Festival Orchestra, Matáv-Concerto Orchestra, Máv Orchestra, Danubia Orchestra, Capella Savaria, and the Symphonic Orchestra of Debrecen, Szombathely, Szeged, Győr, the Radio Orchestra of France, Ankara Presidential Symphonic Orchestra, Istanbul Symphonic Orchestra, Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra, Orfeo Chamber Orchestra. She has sung under the baton of famous conductors like Fabio Luisi, Heinrich Bender, Donald C. Runicles, Andres Orosco Estrada, Lawrence Foster, Jurij Simonov, Kobajasi Ken-Ichiro, Zoltán Kocsis, Ádám Fischer, Iván Fischer, Tamás Vásáry, János Kovács, Ervin Lukács, András Ligeti, Imre Kollár, Zsolt Hamar, Gergely Kesselyák, Domonkos Héja, György Vashegyi.

Tünde Szabóki is a répétiteur at the Opera Department of the University of Graz, and a member of the ’Ars ad libitum’ chamber ensemble in Graz and the NOVA singing ensemble in Vienna. She is also a répétiteur at professional choirs: Stephansdom (Vienna), National Choir (Hungary), Hungarian Radio Chorus.

In 2011 she was awarded Liszt Prize and Artistjus Prize in Hungary. She is married to the singer Péter Cser since June 15, 1991 and currently lives in Lives in Ócsa, Hungary.
