The American pianist, Jocelyn Anne Kovaleski Swigger, holds degrees in piano and English from Oberlin College and the Oberlin Conservatory, and she completed masters degrees in piano performance and pedagogy of theory as well as the doctor of musical arts degree at the Eastman School of Music. Principal teachers include Evelyne Brancart, Joseph Schwartz, and Rebecca Penneys.
Known for her expressive playing, varied programming, and informative concert lectures, Jocelyn Swigger performs as a solo and collaborative pianist (accompanist and chamber musician) in the USA, Europe, and South America. In addition to performing on the piano, fortepiano, and harpsichord, she also enjoys making music on the accordion and as an enthusiastic choir alto.
A passionate advocate of new music, Jocelyn Swigger has appeared in composer’s forum concerts at Oberlin, Eastman, Cornell, and NYU, and she has collaborated and premiered works by composers including Martin Scherzinger, Dennis DeSantis, Payton MacDonald, Gavin Chuck, Aaron Grad, Buzz Jones, Greg Mertl, and Forrest Pierce. As a collaborative artist and accompanist, she has played for such institutions as the Manhattan School of Music, the Quartet Program at Bucknell University, the Boys Choir of Harlem, and the Juilliard School. She has performed as concerto soloist in the USA with the Albuquerque Chamber Orchestra and at the Music in the Mountains festival in Purgatory, Colorado, and in Paraguay with the Orchestra de la Institute Stael Ruffinelli and the Orchestra Sinfsnica de la Ciudad de Asuncisn.
A dedicated teacher, Jocelyn Swigger has taught at Fort Lewis College, the Hochstein Music School, CUNY Queensborough, and Adelphi University. She now serves as Assistant Professor and Coordinator of Keyboard Studies in the Sunderman Conservatory at Gettysburg College, where she is also a founding member of the Sunderman Trio. She has also regularly appeared as performer and teacher at the Ameropa International Chamber Music Festival in Prague, the Czech Republic, and Madrid, Spain. She spent the summer of 2008 in Asunción, Paraguay, on a Fulbright Scholar Teaching Grant.
