The American computational scientist and pianist, Ruoshi Sun, obtained his Bachlor of Science degree in Materials Science and Engineering and his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2004-2008); and his Ph.D. degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2008-2013; Thesis: Photovoltaic properties and size-pH phase stability of iron disulfide from density-functional theory; Advisor: Gerbrand Ceder; Minor: Music). He is experienced in electronic structure codes for computational materials science. He takes part in managing the Rivanna software stack, building Singularity/Docker containers, and providing user support/research consultation. He made his Postdoctoral Research Associate at Brown University (August 2013-July 2018); was Senior Research Associate at Brown University (August 2018-October 2019); and since October 2019, is Computational Scientist at University of Virginia.
Ruoshi Sun studied piano with Ms. Li, piano (1999-2004); theory with Mr. Xian Zhiwei (冼志偉,) (2000-2001); piano with Ms. Heng-Jin Park, (2010-2011); and composition with Professor Keeril Makan (2011). He composes/arranges music and play the piano as a hobby. J.S. Bach is his favorite composer. His composition style is greatly influenced by J.S. Bach and a few neoclassical composers. Software: he uses NoteWorthy Composer for composing and LilyPond/Frescobaldi for typesetting. He is also a volunteer pianist at the University Hospital through the “Music for Healing” program. He currently lives in Charlottesville, Virginia. |
