The French-Israeli pianist, Gabriel Stern, started his musical and artistic path in the class of Nelly Tasmadjian at the conservatory of La Ciotat, where he was quickly noticed for his piano skills and his stage presence. This led him to continue his studies at the CRR in Marseille under Anne-Marie Ghirardelli until June 2011, when he won the piano prize. (Prix de piano) Gabriel then worked with V. Pélissero, before starting his Advanced Studies at the CRR in Rueil-Malmaison in Pascal Amoyel's class, where he won the Diplôme de Virtuosité in June 2012. The same year, he received advices from Bernard d'Ascoli within the Cantabile Piano Association. He was formed at Haute Ecole de Musique de Genève in the class of Cédric Pescia. After obtaining his Bachelor of Arts, and after his Master’s degree in concert, he continued to pursue his course under Eliso Virsaladze at Fondazione Scuola di Musica di Fiesol, where he did his Postgraduate Studies. He then joined the class of Nelson Goerner at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Gèneve, where he perfects his piano skills in a Master’s degree Master de Soliste.
Gabriel Stern has had the opportunity to work with several personalities from the musical world, including Pavel Nersessian, Philippe Cassard, Jean-Marc Luisada, Konstantin Lifschitz, Jacques Rouvier, Racha Arodaky, during Master-classes in France and Switzerland. Gabriel is the winner of international competitions, with a First Prize at the « Montrond les Bains International Competition » (Category Grand Prix Concert 2012). He also won the «Virtuosity Prize» at the 10th Adilia Alieva International Piano Competition in 2016.
Gabriel Stern's public performances include solo recitals in France, Switzerland, Italy, Germany and England and at various festivals, such as the National Theater La Criée, Hungarian Institute of Paris, Théâtre de l'Alliance Française , Festival Classique des Haudères, Fondation l’Abri, Festival International de Solliès-Pont, Musique à Vars, Festiv’Baroqueries, Soirées du Castellet, Rencontres Culturelles de la Vallée de Joux. In December 2017, he replaced Cédric Pescia at the last minute in the Grande Salle of the Haute Ecole de Musique de Genève, in J.S. Bach's Goldberg Variations (BWV 988), and in May 2018, he replaced pianist Ran Jia at the Théâtre Kléber Méleau, in a L.v. Beethoven-Sergei Rachmaninov-Franz Liszt recital.
Notable for the choice of his audacious programmes, Gabriel Stern devotes himself in a series of particular recitals to Liszt in 2019, with the complete 12 Transcendental Performance Studies.
In July 2017, Philippe Cassard presented Gabriel Stern on France Musique as part of the program "Portraits de Famille - Jeunes pianistes français, la relève". Since 2017, he has been supported by the Otto and Régine Heim Foundation and the Tempo Foundation in Geneva. On February 23, 2019 an audiance was able to listen to him on France Musique live from the Théâtre de l'Alliance Française, in the program presented by Clément Rochefort «Générations France Musique, le Live !» as soloist in Liszt and in 4 hands with Cédric Pescia in Bach-Kurtág. He currently lives in Geneva, Switzerland.
Gabriel Stern recently published his first debut album "Goldberg Variations" under the Label Lyrinx. His first recording, realized with the support of the Fondation Tempo was released on May 17, 019 and was well received on France Musique for "its concentration, its intellect and for its far-sightedness". The specialized journal Diapason dedicates an article to him written by Philippe Ramin and gives him the 5 tuning forks. The Bach Disc dedicated to the Goldberg Variations was presented on June 13, 2019 on France Musique by Rodolphe Bruneau-Boulmier and Emilie Munera in the program "En pistes" as Classic Music Disc of the Day. |
