The Swiss soprano, Wally Stämpfli, studied piano playing at the Conservatoire of La Chaux-de-Fonds with Elise Faller, then at the Conservatoire National de Paris with Vlado Perlemuter, there also composition with Nadia Boulanger and singing with Charles Panzéra. She was further trained in Vienna by Lily Kolar, in Berne by Margarethe Haeser, in Hamburg by Erna Berger.
After she finished her studieds, Wally Stämpfli launched a successful career in the concert hall, where she performed numerous roles in oratorios and sacred vocal works and a very versatile Lieder repertoire. During her twelve years as a member of Ensemble Vocal de Lausanne, she appeared, among others, under the direction of Michel Corboz, with whom she made an African tour. She gave concerts in Basel, Berne and Zürich, in Geneva, Schaffhausen and Lausanne, at the International Music Weeks of Luzern, in Paris, Strasbourg, Lyon and at the Festival of Besançon, in Cologne, Gent and Bologna. In 1976 she participated in the premiere of the Requiem de Pâques by S. Arnauld broadcasted by Radio Lausanne.
Following her musical career as a performer, Wally Stämpfli gave piano lessons at the Conservatoire of La Chaux-de-Fonds for some time. Since 1967 she served as singing teacher at the Conservatoire of Basel, and was also active with the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.
