Noëlle Spieth (Harpsichord)

Born: October 10, 1950 - Paris, France

The French harpsichordist, Noëlle Spieth, studied at the Conservatory of Paris (3 First Prizes) and Geneva (Vrtuosity Prize), and in master-classes with Kenneth Gilbert and Gustav Leonhardt. Her own musicological investigations and performance experience have convinced her of the necessity of combining the esthetic traits and concerns of northern Europe and the Mediterranean: architecture and sensuousness, rigor and fantasy, historical analysis united with ardor, tenderness, and with the many varied harpsichord sonorities.

Since winning First Prize in the Paris International Harpsichord Competition in 1977, Noëlle Spieth has traveled widely, giving solo recitals and chamber music concerts in the United States, Canada, Brazil, Colombia and throughout Europe.

Each of her CD recordings have received unanimously enthusiastic reviews. Her discography includes a numerous amount of chamber music discs (“cantates” with Henri Ledroit, Cello sonatas with David Simpson and more...), a few contemporary pieces (Levaillant, Revery, Ibarrondo) and recitals such as Soler, Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck. Matthias Weckmann, Complete Works of Louis Couperin. Her recording of the complete works of Rameau (CHOC of Monde De La Musique) is yet considered to be the best by France-Musique, the Diapason Magazine and the BBC-Music-magazine. Her recording of the complete works of François Couperin (10 CDs from Solstice) was complimented by most of the popular musical magazines (CHOC of Monde De La Musique, 10 de Repertoire, Early Music, International Record Review, Music and Vision...). For this recording, she received the Grand Prize of the Charles Cros Academy.

Her harpsichord class in the National Regional Conservatory of Paris is much sought after, attracting students not only from France but also from many other countries.
