Mark Spencer (Baritone)

Born: USA

The American baritone and music pedagogue, Mark Spencer, studied at Susquehanna Valley High School in Conklin, New York (Class of 1973). He obtained his Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Arts from Broome Community College in Binghamton, New York in 1975; his Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts with Emphasis in Music from Judson College in Elgin, Illinois in 1981; his Master of Music degree in Church Music/Vocal Performance from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas in 1984; and his Doctor of Musical Arts in Church Music/Vocal Performance from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas in 1992. Dissertation: A Performer's Analysis of Five Mystical Songs and Seven Songs from The Pilgrim's Progress by Ralph Vaughan Williams.

Mark Spencer has performed as a a vocal soloist with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Wright State University Choirs and Chamber Orchestra, Inland Opera Association of Southern California, Dayton Opera, The Dayton Bach Society, The Bach Society of Dayton, Opera Funatics, National Aviation Hall of Fame, The Riverside Master Chorale, La Sierra University Chorale, Golden Gate Choral Society, Musica Viva!, The Bruce Langsford Singers.

Mark Spencer's academic posts have included: Instructor at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in Mill Valley, California (1986-1988); Adjunct at Tarrant County College (Spring 1989); Adjunct at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, So. Cal. Campus (1991 & 1992); Associate Professor of Music at California Baptist University in Riverside, California (August 1989-June 1993); Associate Professor of Vocal Music at Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio (since September 1993).

As a church musician, Mark Spencer has served as Interim Minister of Music at First Baptist Church in Fairborn, Ohio; Interim Choir Director at Far Hills Community Church in Kettering, Ohio; Director of Music at Grand Heights Baptist Church in Fairborn, Ohio; Minister of Music at First Baptist Church in Riverside, California; Interim Minister of Music at First Baptist Church in Hayward, California; Choir President at First Baptist Church in San Francisco, Calfornia; Minister of Music at St. Timothy Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Bedford, Texas; Minister of Music at Trinity So. Baptist Church in Kaufman, Texas.

Mark Spencer has also worked as a broadcaster: Announcer in WNBF-AM in Binghamton, New York (July 1974-January 1978); Announcer in WSKG Public TV & Radio in Binghamton, New York (January 1978-August 1979); Announcer in 90.3 WCDR Radio Network in Cedarville University, Ohio (June 1996-October 2011).
