The German choral conductor, Johannes Sorg, received cello lessons at the age of 8. During his studies of church music and singing he discovered his passion for leading choirs and conducting. Many hospitations at opera productions, at the radio and with well-known conductors, as well as the attendance of master-classes (Conducting: Helmuth Rilling, Eric Ericson, Alexandru Sumsky. Singing: Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Hans Hotter, Aldo Baldin, Cornelius Reid.) completed his education and formed him significantly as he chose his professional main points as conductor, singer and singing pedagogue.
Already during the studies Johannes Sorg led choirs in Reutlingen and Tübingen. Especially during his time as an assistant at the Dom zu Rottenburg he received first insights into the profound work with a boy choir with the Rottenburger Domsingknaben.
The following 10 years Johannes Sorg spent as a cantor in Böblingen while he also held an invitation to lecture at the Aufbaugymnasium in Schwäbisch Gmünd. 1992 he got called by Hans-Jörg Kalmbach to the Aurelius Sängerknaben Calw, where he got to know all aspects of a professional boy choir in his work as choir leader and voice trainer. In 2001 he was elected as artistic director. For his work he received considerable recognition in 2002 when he achieved the first prize at the "German Choir Contest" at Osnabrück with his men ensemble and got rewarded by the Bruno-Frey-Preis for outstanding musical performance by the 'Landesakademie for the music making youth' in Baden-Württemberg. |
