The Brazilian counter-tenor, Victor de Souza Soares, began his musical education at the age of 9 in São Francisco, Brazil. He studied International Relations at PUC Minas in Belo Horizonte, Brazil (2002-2004), During his singing studies at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (2005-2008), he studied with Mauro Chantal, Mônica Pedrosa and Marília Vargas. He studied Law at UFMG - Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (Class of 2007). He successfully participated in various singing competitions, which allowed him concerts all over Brazil. He also appeared as a soloist in the most important early music festivals in the country, under the direction of Nicolau de Figueiredo and Luís Otávio Santos. As a scholarship holder of the Rapp Foundation and Marie-Louise Fonds, he studied Voice/Music from October 2008 to 2011 with Professor Ulrich Messthaler and Professor Rosa Domínguez at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. He also studied Voice Pedagogy at the same institute (2011-2013). He also attended master-classes with the singing pedagogues: Margreet Honig, Maria Cristina Kiehr, Gerd Türk, Evelyn Tubb, Andreas Scholl and Kurt Widmer. Since August 2014, he studies for Ph.D. degree in Anthropology of sound and listening at Universität Bern (expected graduation July 2019). Since 2016, he is Research Scholar there.
Victor Soares regularly performs with renowned ensembles and conductors from Europe and South America. With the Kammerchor Stuttgart (Director: Frieder Bernius) he has recorded Requiem in C minor by L. Cherubini and the opera Die Geisterinstel by J.R. Zumsteeg for Carus-Verlag. Recent engagements include: The Fairy Queen by H. Purcell (Theater Basel, Andrea Marcon), La liberazione di Ruggiero dall'isola di Alcina by F. Caccini (Semperoper Dresden, Giorgio Paronuzzi), Mass in As Dur by F. Schubert (Tonhalle Zürich, Frans Brüggen) and the opera Montezuma by Antonio Vivaldi (Festival de la Musique ancienne de Cevennes, Thomas Leiniger / Michael Form). He is a member of La Pedrina (Director: Francesco Saverio Pedrini). He is also Singing Teacher of Lenzburger Kantorei in Lenzburg, Switzerland. |
